The Shifting Global Balance of Autocracy and Democracy

On 8 April 2022 the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in partnership with V-Dem will hold an online event to discuss the findings of V-Dem's latest Varieties of Democracy annual report, which indicates that in 2021 the health of democracy globally is the worst it has been in thirty years. Only fifteen countries in 2021 were democratising, with autocratisation continuing to adapt and evolve. The discussion will feature Staffan I. Lindberg and Thomas Carothers and be moderated by Saskia Brechenmacher.
