About Team Europe Democracy
The Team Europe Democracy (TED) initiative was launched by the European Commission and European Union (EU) Member States on 22 November 2021. Based on the founding values of the EU, the TED initiative aims at: promoting and protecting democracy and human rights worldwide with actions based on academic evidence; shared experiences on democracy support models; and building broad alliances to inform international and national policies, programmes and actions.
The TED Initiative entails actions at three different levels:
- Increasing the knowledge base on Democracy support for evidence based policy making
- Creating a TED network including EU Member State and civil society organizations, with the purpose of exchanging information and creating collaborations and synergies on democracy support, and
- Supporting civil society in participating at the Summit for Democracy
The initiative has three focus themes:
- Accountability and Rule of Law: Anti-corruption, rule of law, access to justice and increasing transparency of government data
- Political and Civic Participation: Women’s and youth political participation and civil society activism, political party systems, parliamentary support, electoral integrity and local democratic governance
- Media and Digital: Safety, security and professional skills of journalists, digital transition of media and human rights and fundamental freedoms in cyberspace
