How the EU Can Safeguard Media Freedom and Pluralism in Hungary and Poland

On 9 November 2022, the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) will hold an online event to discuss key questions regarding the role of EU institutions in countering the systemic assault that independent media currently faces in certain member states. These questions will include how the EU can better use its existing instruments to defend media freedom, whether legal action can help to reverse negative trends in Hungary and Poland, and what role the planned Media Freedom Act might play in establishing safeguards.
